My sister's comment about our birth mom made me rethink my whole stance on open adoption
We grew up adopted by our dad's second wife, and our birth mom sent letters every year on our birthdays. My sister always called them 'guilt trips' and I agreed until last month when she said 'at least she cared enough to keep writing.' She read one to me from 2009, a single page about a garden she planted after we were born. It hit different because I never asked why she didn't fight for us, just assumed she didn't want to. Now I'm wondering if my own anger was just me protecting myself from feeling rejected. Has anyone else had a sibling flip your view on your birth mother's actions after years of thinking the same way?
