My sister asked me a question about my son's adoption that stopped me cold

We were having coffee last Tuesday and she said, 'Do you ever think about what his favorite color is now?' I'm 12 years out from placing him, and I realized I still picture him as a baby. That simple question made me see I was stuck in time. It pushed me to finally write a letter to the agency asking for an update, something I've put off for years. Has anyone else had a small moment like that push them to reach out after a long time?

Twelve years and you still had him in footie pajamas in your head? Man, the brain is a weird time machine. Good on you for finally sending that letter.

Honestly, who knew a letter could fix that?

Hey, the footie pajamas were a classic look. The letter was basically a grown-up permission slip to stop picturing that.
