My adoption agency's post-placement support just fell through

I placed my son with his family about six months ago through an agency in Portland. They promised monthly check-in calls for the first year, which was a big part of why I chose them. The calls were fine at first, but my counselor missed the last two months entirely. I called the main office three times and finally got a voicemail saying she left the agency. They haven't assigned me anyone new. It feels like I was just dropped once the paperwork was done. I'm doing okay, but those calls really helped me process things. Has anyone else had their aftercare support just stop like this? How did you handle it?

@sarahb59 mentioned being "awkward leftovers" and I think that hits on something bigger we're seeing everywhere now. It seems like every service or group these days promises ongoing support but then treats you like a finished project once the main work is done, whether it's adoption or anything else. @logan299 touched on this too with groups fading, but the real pattern is that people get dropped when they're no longer profitable or convenient, and we're left trying to find our own way.

That's rough, sorry they ghosted you. My support group just kind of fizzled out too, guess we're the awkward leftovers. Maybe try reaching out to a different local group directly.

Ever think a group falling apart meant it was a total failure? I used to see it that way, like a personal rejection. But watching my own group fade made me see the quiet ones who stuck around, and that was its own kind of connection, you know? It's less about being leftovers and more about finding the few people who actually get it, even if it's just two of you.
