I used to send a yearly letter to my son's adoptive parents. Now I send nothing.
For the first 12 years after placement, I wrote a long letter every Christmas with photos and updates about my life. I wanted them to know me, to see I was doing okay. Last year I stopped after I realized the letters were more for me than for them. His mom told me he never read them anyway, just set them aside. Now I just send a birthday card with $50 and that's it. Anyone else go from over-sharing to barely communicating with the adoptive family?

Man, why overthink it? $50 and a card sounds fine.

Yeah totally agree with you there @the_logan, I usually do the same thing, 50 bucks and a nice note is just the right amount without it being weird.
