I thought the 'open adoption' thing was just a nice story they told us.
When I placed my daughter 5 years ago, the agency in Phoenix said we could do pictures and letters. I figured they'd forget after a year. But last month, I got a birthday card from her with a drawing she made. Her mom wrote a note saying they talk about me sometimes. It wasn't just words. Has anyone else had an open adoption actually work out long term?

Open adoptions often fall apart when life gets complicated.

Ugh, that's so real. We had a set visit schedule that just stopped working after the kid started school and sports. The key was switching to video calls on busy weeks and being super clear about holiday plans way in advance. It's not perfect, but you gotta be willing to change the plan when life throws curveballs.
