I broke down crying in a Target parking lot in Boise after placing my daughter, and a stranger sat with me for 20 minutes
She didn't ask anything or try to fix it, just handed me tissues from her own purse and said her sister went through the same thing in 1991, and now I stop and actually sit with people instead of rushing past them, so I'm wondering if anyone else had a random stranger get them through the worst day.
Wondering if one nice moment with a stranger really counts as "getting you through" the worst day of your life. Sitting with someone for 20 minutes is kind, sure, but it doesn't fix the fact that you placed your daughter, and that pain is still gonna be there when you drive home alone. People love to turn a small act into this big healing story because it makes the whole thing feel less heavy, but a stranger with tissues is not the same as real support. Maybe the harder truth is that nobody can really get you through that day, and pretending a parking lot moment did just hides how alone you actually were.
Idk, feels like you're kind of missing the point. Nobody said the stranger fixed everything or that the pain went away, just that someone showed up when it mattered. That 20 mins might not heal you but it can keep you from feeling totally invisible on your worst day, and that counts for something real.
