Got a card from my birth daughter's parents today saying she passed 3rd grade math
I've been an open adoption for 4 years now and never expected to get school updates. Her mom sent me a handwritten note with a photo of her holding her A+ test. It hit me harder than I thought it would. Has anyone else gotten unexpected milestone updates like that?

Hold onto that note man. It's easy to forget how much those little updates mean to other people, especially when they're not obligated to give them. We live in a world where everyone's so busy and everyone assumes you'll see the news on Facebook anyway. But someone taking the time to write it down and mail it, that's a different kind of message. It says she's thinking of you, not just sending out a group text. That card is more than a school update, it's proof that you're still part of that girl's life, even from a distance.

That note from her mom holding the A+ test, that's the kind of thing you'll probably keep forever. I get what ryan_kim63 is saying about the handwritten note being special, but it actually sounds like you got a loose photo and a card, not a single card with the photo built in. Still, the point stands - she took the time to write it out and pick a photo, which is way more personal than a group text. It's got to feel pretty good knowing you're still in that loop, even if it's just through paper and ink.
