Figured out I was sending the wrong birth mother updates for 4 months straight

I kept sending these long, emotional updates to my son's birth mother, thinking she wanted to hear every little milestone. Then at a support group last Wednesday, another birth mom told me she just wanted basic facts like height and weight, not paragraphs about how my kid laughed at a cartoon. Now I ask every time what she wants, and it's way better.

Call me crazy but weren't the updates for you and your son, not for her? Seems like you were giving her a gift and now you're letting someone else dictate how that gift should look.

And who exactly is "her" in this situation? Is that the new girlfriend or the ex-wife, because that changes the whole dynamic of whose opinion should even matter.
