Does staying in touch with the adoptive family make things easier or harder over time?

I've been sending letters and photos to my daughter's adoptive parents for 5 years now, but last month they stopped responding after I mentioned wanting a visit. Some days I feel like the contact helps me heal, other days it just rips the wound open again. For those of you who have open adoptions, does the long-term communication actually help you or make it worse?

Have you tried setting up a time to talk on the phone instead of just letters? In my case, regular calls helped me feel more connected without the pressure of planning a visit.

@sanchez.beth calls helped me too but texts are even lower pressure honestly lol
