The second season slump is real, but it hits different shows differently
Last month I binged three shows back to back that all had rough second seasons. One show just repeated the first season's plot with worse jokes. Another one dropped a main character and never explained why. Then I watched a third show where the second season actually fixed the pacing problems from the first one. So now I'm wondering if the whole second season curse is just lazy writing or if some stories need that time to settle. Anyone else noticed that certain genres handle second seasons better than others?

Every hobby or job has the same thing. First time you try something new, you get a pass because it's fresh. Second time around, people expect you to know what you're doing, and half the time you don't yet. Cooking, golf, playing an instrument, same deal. The second attempt is where the real test hits because the excuse of being new is gone. Shows are no different, except they also have to deal with actors quitting and writers running out of ideas. Comedy and mystery probably suffer most because they depend on surprise, while slower dramas can use season two to actually build something.
