That backyard barbecue changed how I watch sci-fi series now
I was at a cookout last Saturday when my buddy's dad started talking about how Battlestar Galactica actually works better if you skip half the filler episodes. He pulled out his phone and showed me a list he made of just 18 must-watch episodes from the whole series. Has anyone else ever tried watching a show with a trimmed down watchlist and did it ruin the full experience or make it better?

Wait @victor_carr54 actually skipped the monster of the week episodes? That's wild haha.

Bruh that's genius lol. I did something similar with The X Files a few years back. My cousin had this list of just the "mythology episodes" so we skipped all the monster of the week stuff. Honestly it made the whole alien conspiracy arc way more intense and easier to follow. We binged it in like two weekends. I still go back and watch the filler ones on my own now but for a first watch with someone who's not hardcore into it, trimming the fat is the move. That list your buddy's dad made sounds like a solid plan.

Yeah doing a curated watch list is the way to go for sure. My buddy and I did that with Star Trek TNG back in the day, skipped all the holodeck and Ferengi episodes that everyone says are weak. Made the whole thing way more watchable and we still got the main character arcs.
