People keep calling every 90s show a 'comfort watch' and it drives me up a wall
I saw someone call Oz a comfort show last week. Oz is literally about prison violence and rape, not a cozy relaxing watch. If you haven't finished a show without needing a shower, it's not comfort material, right?

Oh man, I feel this in my soul. I had a friend try to tell me The Wire was their "cozy background show" and I was like, are we watching the same show about drug dealers and broken systems? For me, the only 90s show that actually works as a comfort watch is something like The Nanny or Fresh Prince where nothing bad really happens and you can tune out. Comfort shows need low stakes, not gritty realism about the worst parts of humanity.

Eh, gotta disagree with you a little there @skylerp20. Fresh Prince had some HEAVY episodes, like the one where Will's dad leaves him again, or Carlton with the gun. Not exactly "nothing bad happens" territory. The Nanny is a better example, that show was pure fluff.
