I finally figured out how to get past the slow start on 'The Wire'
Everyone kept telling me it was the best show ever, but I quit twice after the first three episodes. Last month, I decided to watch the first four episodes with subtitles on, forcing myself to pay attention to the police jargon and street names. By episode five, I was hooked and finished the whole series in under a month. Anyone have a similar trick for a show that's hard to get into?

You finished the whole series in under a month? That's like a full time job. I can't imagine watching that many hours that fast, it's wild.

That's funny you say that @shane_perry29, I read an article about how some shows just take a minute to find their groove (Mad Men especially, apparently). The writers room changed a lot after the first season. Jumping ahead actually makes sense when you think about it. I mean, who has time to slog through thirteen hours of setup just to catch the good part?

Honestly I had the same thing with Mad Men. Could not get into the first season at all, it felt so slow. My friend told me to just skip to season two and then go back later. Tbh it worked, the pace picks up a lot and you get the vibe of the show. Went back and watched season one after I was already hooked on the characters. Sometimes you just need to jump ahead to find the good stuff.
