Gave Dark a second shot after giving up on episode 3 last year
A buddy swore the payoff was worth the confusion, so I pushed through to episode 5 last week and suddenly everything clicked. Has anyone else had a show flip from frustrating to amazing after a slow start like that?

Nah, I gotta push back on that. Those first episodes are just flat out boring, not "intentionally dim." Rewatching them after episode 5 doesn't make the dialogue any less wooden or the side characters any less forgettable. The show doesn't get better because you finally understand it, it gets better because the writers finally figured out what they were doing. Give them credit for fixing the pacing, sure, but don't pretend the early stuff was some clever artistic choice. It was a stumble, not a setup.

Wait, did you notice how the show's color palette shifts completely right around episode 5? I almost missed it but the lighting gets warmer and more vibrant once you start understanding the bigger picture. Made me wonder if they intentionally "dimmed" the earlier episodes to match how lost the characters felt.
