Wrote off sealed bearings for years, one muddy week in Akron changed my tune
I always repacked loose ball hubs because they are cheap and I can fix them anywhere. Then I pulled a sealed bearing hub off a customer's bike after 800 miles of wet gravel and the grease inside was still clean, while my loose ball setup needed a rebuild at 300. So for anyone working on commuters in bad weather, do you still run loose ball or have you gone sealed?
Man that wet gravel grind is brutal on parts, so I feel you on wanting something that just holds up. It stings to baby a loose ball hub and still rebuild it every few months while sealed stuff keeps chugging along. For bad weather commuters I'd lean sealed too, even if it costs a bit more up front.
