Why does nobody talk about vintage quill stem binder bolts just snapping?

Had a customer's 80s Fuji in the stand last week, went to adjust the bars, and the 6mm bolt sheared clean off at the threads. Ended up drilling it out and hunting for a replacement for two hours. Anyone have a good source for those weird old M6x1.0 binder bolts besides just hoping the parts bin has one?

That 1.0 thread pitch is the real killer... most modern stuff is 1.25, so the old ones just get brittle and forgotten. I keep a few salvaged from dead stems in a jar for exactly this. The hunt is half the fun, I guess.

Tell me about it, my jar of weird old screws is basically a hardware graveyard.
