Three brake bleeds in one afternoon, still can't get the lever feel right

Had a run of three bikes come in today, all needing brake bleeds, and the last one a Shimano setup from 2016 still has that spongy lever after two tries. I flushed it with fresh mineral oil, tapped the caliper, did everything by the book. Anyone else hit a wall with older brake systems that just won't cooperate no matter what you do?

2016 Shimano levers had bad master cylinders. Rebuild it.
