The 3 cent washer that saved a $40 derailleur job for me
I was about to replace a whole Shimano derailleur on a customer's commuter bike down here in Tucson because the jockey wheel had a ton of side play. Before I ordered anything, I pulled the cage apart and found the bushing was fine, but the little washer behind the pulley had worn paper thin. A 3 cent stainless washer from my bin of spares got the play down to almost nothing and the shifting came right back. Now I check that washer first on every worn pulley, has anyone else seen these go before the bearing does?
