Spent $80 on a torque wrench from Amazon, now I'm out $80
Last month I bought this cheap torque wrench for my shop in Austin, figuring it'd be fine for basic bike work. Tried setting it to 5 Nm for carbon bars and the calibration was SO off I snapped a bolt before I even felt the click. Lesson learned: never skimp on tools you trust with expensive parts. Has anyone else dealt with a tool that just lied to you about its specs?

Oh man, that stinks. I feel your pain. I had the exact same problem with a no-name brand torque wrench a few years back. What actually worked for me was taking it to a local shop that does tool calibration. It cost me $25, and they showed me the wrench was reading like 30% high. After they adjusted it, it was actually usable. If you're in a city like Austin, you should have a place that can check it for you. Maybe it's not a total loss.

$25 for calibration is a bargain honestly. Most people just toss those things, @lilymurphy has the right idea. Cheap tools can be saved if you know where to look.
