Shoutout to the old timer in Tucson who said my wheel builds were 'too pretty to ride'
He told me I was wasting time polishing nipples instead of checking tension evenly, so now I finish a wheel in 40 minutes flat. Anybody else get called out for overdoing the wrong part of a build?

Polishing nipples is exactly the kind of thing that feels productive while the spokes are quietly plotting their revenge. I spent a whole Saturday once making my rims gleam and then popped a spoke on the first curb I hit. Old timers always know where you are cutting corners, even when it looks like you are going above and beyond. At least yours saved you time instead of just giving you a story.
