I finally took that old mechanic's advice about chain lube

There's this guy named Jerry who's been working on bikes since the 80s at a shop downtown. He kept telling me to stop using the fancy wet lube and just go with a basic dry wax for my commuter. I thought he was just being old and stubborn, you know? But after three months of my drivetrain getting caked in black grime every week, I finally tried his way. The chain runs quieter now and I'm not cleaning it every 50 miles. Plus the dry lube is like 8 bucks a bottle compared to the 15 I was spending. Still weird to apply it practically bone dry though. Anyone else have a shop veteran steer you away from the expensive stuff?

Yeah Jerry sounds like he knows his stuff, I switched to dry wax for the same reason and never looked back.
