I finally quit using water on bearings and saw a big difference

I used to rinse bearings with water after degreasing, but it led to rust fast. Now I only use solvent and let them air dry. My last batch of hubs has been smooth for months without any issues. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Yeah the "rust fast" part hits home. I killed a whole set of bearings figuring that out the hard way. I'm basically a one person cautionary tale.

Isn't it crazy how many big messes start from ignoring one tiny thing? I mean, it's like if you skip cleaning a tool just once, next thing you know it's seized up or covered in gunk. You tell yourself it's fine for now, but that's always the first step. Makes me wonder if we're all just wired to hope small problems will fix themselves. Your bearing story is a perfect example of that whole cycle.

Totally feel that, it's like a universal law of bad outcomes. @mia_scott77 isn't wrong about being a cautionary tale, we've all been there. My old car had a weird noise for months that I kept calling "character" until the whole belt system went. Funny how our brains can justify anything to avoid a 10 minute fix.
