Had a fork blow up on me at a group ride in Portland last week

I was doing a quick pre-ride check on a customer's carbon fork and missed a hairline crack near the crown. It snapped on Hawthorne Bridge during a group ride, sent the guy over the bars. Anyone else start doing ultrasonic testing on carbon forks after a close call?

Oh man, that's brutal. Same thing happened to me with a customer's fork a few years back. Scary as hell watching someone eat pavement because of a crack I missed. Started hitting every carbon fork with an ultrasonic test after that. Worth the peace of mind.

Did you have to buy the ultrasonic tester or did your shop already have one?
