Had a customer's vintage Campagnolo derailleur hanger snap clean off mid-shift yesterday

It was a 1970s frame, and the metal just gave out under the spring tension. Anyone know a good source for period-correct replacements, or is this a weld-only job now?

That "snap clean off" is a real bummer. I had a similar failure on an old Bianchi. I found a guy who does brass fillet brazing repairs, and he was able to build up a new hanger that looked totally original. It wasn't cheap, but it saved the frame.

That's the dream fix right there! So cool when a repair brings a frame back to life.

Yeah "snap clean off" is the worst sound. My buddy had a vintage Motobecane, same thing happened to him. He found this old timer in a shed who welded a new hanger on, but the guy used this weird mix of brass and silver solder. Took like three trips and cost him more than the bike was worth, but the repair was so clean you couldn't even tell it had snapped. He rode that thing for another ten years before he finally sold it.
