Had a customer today who didn't know what a chain whip was

A guy rolled in with a seized freehub on a 2018 Trek and asked me to just swap the cassette without any tools. Told me he usually takes it to a shop that does it for free. I spent 20 minutes showing him how it all works and he still seemed confused. What's the weirdest thing a customer has assumed about basic bike repair?

lol @mitchell.wade you said it, I can totally picture you wrestling that cassette with pliers and just making a mess of things. My favorite part of that guy's story is the customer claiming a shop does it for free - yeah right, maybe if they're running a charity or something haha. I bet that same guy thinks chain lube is just WD-40 and wonders why his drivetrain sounds like a dying goat after a week. Honestly the confidence some people have when they clearly haven't touched a tool in their life is wild. You gotta respect the hustle of someone who thinks they can outsmart basic physics though, even if it ends with a stripped cassette lockring.

Don't you think some people just assume bikes are way simpler than they actually are? I used to be one of those guys until I tried wrestling a cassette off with pliers and learned the hard way that chain whips exist for a reason.
