Blew a spoke 3 miles from home on a group ride in Austin yesterday

I was leading a paceline through the hill country and heard that sickening *ping* sound right as we hit a steep climb. Tried to limp it back but the wheel buckled so bad I had to call my wife for a pickup. Anyone got a trick for fixing a busted spoke on the trail without a truing stand or am I just out of luck til I get home?

My buddy Phil snapped two spokes on his rear wheel during a solo ride in the dark once, and he just zip-tied the broken ends to the next spoke over and limped the last mile home real slow. It held just fine, no truing stand needed.

Respectfully disagree, zip ties won't fix a buckled wheel on a steep climb.
