A guy named Ray told me to stop greasing every bolt, and my repair times dropped
Honestly I used to put grease on every threaded bolt out of habit, until a mechanic named Ray watched me build up a rear rack at his bench in Tucson and asked why I was doing that. He said grease on rack bolts just collects grit and makes them back out, and to use blue threadlocker instead. I switched that week and my comebacks for loose hardware went from a couple a month to zero. Any of you got a rule like that, where someone's offhand comment rewired your whole process?
