Tried to impress my father-in-law with my brisket last Sunday and set off the smoke alarm at 6 AM

I woke up the whole neighborhood with a 4 AM firebox flare-up cause I forgot to clean out the ash from my last cook. Has anyone else had a brisket go from "low and slow" to "fire department" real quick?

Buddy of mine woke his neighbors when his smoker caught a porch chair on fire at 2 AM.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time my dad tried to smoke a turkey at 3 in the morning for Thanksgiving... he thought it would be done by noon. His smoker was right under the patio awning and he almost set the whole thing on fire with the grease drippings. My mom ran out in her bathrobe screaming about the smoke alarm waking up the whole street...
