Stopped by that new joint in Austin and their brisket bark was way too salty
Went to Smokehouse 42 last weekend, got their famous brisket plate for $28. The bark looked perfect, dark and crusty, but the first bite was like licking a salt block. My buddy said it's 'Texas style' but I've had Franklin's and it's never that aggressive. Honestly think they're overcompensating for something. Anyone know a spot in town that nails the seasoning balance?

Ugh that's the worst, right? When it looks perfect but then just tastes like salt. Did you try to scrape some of the bark off? I've had to do that before and it's such a letdown. Totally get what you mean about overcompensating, like they're trying too hard.

Ever try their ribs? Same problem.

But is it a real problem or just not your thing? I've had worse.

Hold up, are you saying a bad meal is fine just because YOU'VE had worse? That's wild. So if the food is bad but not the absolute worst you've ever had, we shouldn't call it out? What's the line where a problem becomes "real" enough for you?
