Flare up caught me off guard at a comp in Kansas City

I was running a brisket on my offset at the American Royal last weekend and opened the lid too fast. Grease hit the coals and sent a 3-foot flame right up my arm. Lost some arm hair but the brisket was fine after I let it settle for 10 minutes. Anyone else had a bad flare up wreck their cook timing?

Got caught the same way last summer. Lost some eyebrow too but the meat was fine.

Man those flare ups will humble you fast but I scorched my whole forearm on a rib cook last fall and the meat turned out perfect too.
