Watched my neighbor's cherry tomatoes burst after a heavy rain and realized my pots had no drainage holes.

It was last Tuesday during that big storm we had. I looked over and saw her plants just sitting in water, then pop, split right open. I ran out and checked my own balcony boxes. Sure enough, I had drilled holes but they were clogged with dirt. Used a screwdriver to clear them out and added some gravel at the bottom. Has anyone else dealt with pots getting clogged up like that?

Wait, isn't gravel at the bottom actually a myth though? I saw some gardening channel say it just raises the water table and makes the root rot worse lol.

Not gonna lie @anthony_wells, I used to swear by the gravel layer but that actually makes a ton of sense (and explains a lot of my past plant failures, ugh).
