Vent: I switched from 5 gallon buckets to fabric grow bags on my balcony and now I can't decide if I made a huge mistake
So about two months ago I finally got fed up with my setup on my third floor balcony in Denver and made the switch from cheap 5 gallon buckets to 7 gallon fabric grow bags. Half the people on here swear fabric is the only way to go because of air pruning and drainage, and the other half say bags dry out way too fast and are a pain on a hot balcony. I went with fabric anyway and planted two cherry tomatoes, a jalapeno, and some kale, and honestly the growth in the first three weeks was nuts compared to the buckets. But now that it's hitting the 90s here, I'm watering almost every single morning and sometimes again at night, and the kale keeps wilting by 2pm no matter what I do. I put saucers under them and even tried mulching the tops with straw, which helped a little, but I'm still going through way more water than I ever did with plastic. My neighbor with the buckets is out there bragging that his peppers look better than mine even though he waters like twice a week. I'm not ready to give up on the bags yet since the roots look amazing, but I want to know if anyone else made this exact switch and how you handled the drying out problem, or if I should just admit defeat and go back to buckets.
