Showerthought: my neighbor said her tomatoes quit setting fruit last July because it got above 85F on her balcony
I ran into her watering her pots last week and she mentioned her cherry tomatoes dropped every blossom for two weeks straight during that hot stretch. She said once overnight temps stayed above 75F, the pollen basically went sterile and no amount of hand shaking helped. I always figured more sun was better for my 6th floor spot, but now I'm wondering if my south facing wall is actually cooking my plants midday. She ended up moving hers to the east rail and got fruit again by late August, which I never would have guessed. Has anyone here tried shade cloth on a hot balcony, and did it actually help or just cut the light too much?
