Saw a guy growing peppers in cat litter buckets on a fire escape in Queens and it hit me
I was in Astoria visiting my sister two weekends ago and this dude two buildings over had maybe 15 buckets bolted to his fire escape, all of them those big yellow Tidy Cats pails with holes drilled in the bottom. I stood there staring way too long from her window. Here I am with a $60 self watering planter and a grow light setup that tripped my breaker twice, and this guy is pulling fat jalapenos out of free buckets he got from a neighbor. I asked my sister about him and she said he's been doing it for like 4 seasons with the same dirt, just mixes in coffee grounds and eggshells from the diner downstairs. I went home and looked at my setup totally different. The fancy stuff was never the point, the light and the dirt and the water are the point. Anybody else here growing in straight up garbage you dumpster dove for? I need to hear that I'm not the only one who overcomplicated this whole thing.
