PSA: I saw a tomato plant in a coffee can on a fire escape in Brooklyn and it blew my mind
I was visiting a friend last month and her neighbor had a huge cherry tomato plant growing in a big metal coffee can, just sitting on the rusty fire escape. It was loaded with fruit. I always thought you needed a big, fancy planter box for tomatoes. She told me she just pokes extra holes in the bottom and feeds it with leftover coffee grounds. I've been overcomplicating my whole setup. Has anyone else had success with tomatoes in weird containers?

Honestly, it's just a plant in a can. People have been growing stuff in random junk forever. My grandma used old paint buckets. The plant doesn't care if it's a fancy planter or a coffee tin. As long as it gets sun and water, it'll try to grow. Not exactly a revolutionary life hack.

My last plant died in a designer pot, so hugo645 might be onto something.

Hugo645 is right, my fancy pot plants always die too.
