Pro tip: I started using old plastic bottles as mini greenhouses for my seedlings

My balcony gets really windy in the spring, and my tomato seedlings kept getting knocked over or drying out. I cut the bottoms off some 2-liter soda bottles and placed them over the small pots. It only took about 4 days to see a real difference, the plants looked stronger and the soil stayed moist. I leave the caps off for air and take the bottles off once the plants touch the top. Has anyone else tried something like this for wind protection?

How do you handle the bottles on really sunny days? I've heard they can cook the seedlings if it gets too hot inside, so I'm curious if you've had to move them into shade or if the open cap is enough to stop that.

Didn't my friend's plants get fried last year that way?
