I finally picked a determinate tomato variety for my balcony rail planters
I was stuck between a big indeterminate vine or a compact bush type, and went with the bush. It's only been 3 weeks, but the 'Tiny Tim' plants are already flowering and haven't tried to climb my railing at all. Anyone else have luck with small-space tomatoes?

Tiny Tim" is a great pick for small spaces! I read that determinate types like that put all their energy into one big fruit set instead of growing vines forever. You should get a nice bunch of tomatoes all at once for salads.

Actually, determinate types don't just have one big fruit set. They flower and set fruit over a few weeks, but then they stop growing and the harvest is more concentrated. It's not all at one exact moment. Indeterminates keep going until frost. So with your Tiny Tim, you'll get a solid, steady bunch over maybe a month, which is perfect for a balcony. It's a common mix-up. The main thing is you picked right for the space.
