Hot week killed my tomatoes despite daily watering

I know everyone says balcony gardens are easier to manage, but last July's heatwave in Portland proved me wrong. My cherry tomatoes dropped every flower after three days straight of 95 degree sun, and the soil in my fabric pots hit 100 degrees an inch down. Anyone else deal with heat stress even when they water every morning?

Try watering in the evening instead of morning, that might help keep things cooler overnight.

... is it really that serious though? I mean yeah it's hot out but your plants are probably fine if you water them at like 8am instead of 7am. I've been watering my tomatoes at noon sometimes when I forget and they're still alive and kicking. Feels like we're overthinking this whole watering thing sometimes.
