Wiring a Garmin GNS 430W in one day instead of three, what made that Tuesday so smooth

Last Tuesday I knocked out a GNS 430W install in a 172 in Fort Worth that I had quoted three days for, and finished by 4pm. The trick was pre-pinning the whole harness on the bench the night before with a proper crimper instead of rushing it in the plane. How do you all handle harness work, bench first or wire it live in the airframe?
