Why does nobody talk about how a loose cannon plug can ruin your whole night in Wichita
Last Tuesday I was in Wichita finishing up a nav light squawk on a King Air, clock said 10:40 pm, and I was already dreaming about the hotel bed. Did my wiggle check on the cannon plug behind the panel, everything felt tight, so I signed it off and started buttoning up. Fired up for the ops check and the nav light flickered once, just once, then went dead. Pulled the panel back off and that plug was loose enough to twist by hand, the safety wire was still wrapped perfect so it fooled me the first time. Turned out the shell was cracked right at the threads, hairline deal you could not see until I hit it with a light from the side. Took me another hour and a half to swap the connector and re-pin, rolled out of there at 12:30. So what is your go to trick for catching a cracked shell that still feels tight in your hand? Because clearly my wiggle test ain't it.
