Walked the hangar floor at a small airfield in Tulsa and saw 30 years of wire bundles done two ways
I was killing time at a municipal field in Tulsa while a buddy's plane got fuel and noticed the difference between the factory harness on a newer bird and a hand-built panel job on a 1970s airframe. The old one had lacing cord, neat bends at every connector, and labels you could read from ten feet, while the new one was zip ties and a rats nest behind the avionics rack. Any of you still keep waxed lacing cord in your kit, or has the whole trade just moved on to tie wraps and call it good?
Man, I still keep a spool of waxed cord in my box for exactly the reasons you saw, those old laced runs hold up way better than zip ties that chew through insulation over time. Worth the extra hour on a panel job if you ask me, since a tidy harness saves you a world of hurt the next time you're chasing a gremlin behind the rack.
