That FAA rule about wire bundles in wheel wells caught me off guard
I was prepping a King Air nose gear area for a return to service last Tuesday and looked up the AD note on wire separation. Turns out the FAA wants at least 3 inches of clearance between certain harness runs and any hydraulic line unless you add a clamp and sleeve. I always thought zip ties and routing loops were enough, but the maintenance manual specifically calls out a part number for the sleeve. Has anyone else had an inspector flag this same section on a smaller turbine bird?
Man, sounds like a paperwork trap more than a real safety thing. I get that the FAA has to write rules for the lowest common denominator, but 3 inches and a specific sleeve part number on a King Air feels like overkill. Zip ties and clean routing have kept those gear bays working for decades, and I bet most of the old birds out there are flying just fine without that exact clamp setup. Inspectors love to hang their hat on some obscure AD note just to justify their existence. Id reroute it to keep the peace if its cheap, but Id also push back if the manual change is recent and the fleet has history. Half the time these rules come from one incident on some experimental setup, not a real world pattern.
