Spent $600 on a backup power supply and it kept a whole hangar awake
We had a brownout during a storm near Fort Worth last month and my bench barely blinked, but the guy next to me lost a full calibration cycle. I bought a used 1500VA UPS off a retiring tech for $600 and it held my test gear and laptop for close to 40 minutes. Anyone else run into surprise power dips that fry your reference standards or am I just paranoid about this?}

Hell yeah, I used to think those big UPS units were overkill for a bench. Like, you got a surge protector, what more do you need? Then we had a dip hit our shop hard last spring and it wiped the memory on my good multimeter. That was a cheap lesson compared to what you went through. Now I got a big used unit on my main bench too, and it's paid for itself twice over just in peace of mind.
