Pro tip: pinout diagrams from 2010 are garbage for modern harnesses

I was chasing a weird intermittent fault on a 2018 Garmin setup this morning and the old pinout sheet we had on the wall was about as useful as a screen door on a 737. Back in 2010, we never dealt with CAN bus traffic on the same lines as power feeds, so the diagrams just listed continuity checks and static voltages. Now you hook up a scope and see all sorts of noise on those same pins, and the old method tells you nothing. I spent three hours chasing a ground loop that woulda been obvious if I had just looked at the newer wiring manual from the start. The change really started around 2015 when these integrated avionics boxes started talking over the same twisted pairs we used for discrete signals. Has anyone else run into old tech data that just makes the job harder, or are we all stubborn about the older ways too?
