Just realized my pin crimper was the problem all along

I spent two years using the cheap crimper from the hardware store on D-sub pins and kept getting intermittent failures. Switched to a proper military-grade crimper last month after a buddy let me borrow his for a job. Has anyone else found that the tool makes that much difference on crimp quality?

Wait, were you using the right die for the pin size with the cheap one, or was it just a general purpose crimper that couldn't grip right?

Did you ever try the old hammer-and-punch trick on that one stubborn connector? lol
