I argued with a guy about using shielded cable for a long run, and he was totally right
I was working on a Citation in Wichita, running a new GPS antenna line. This older tech, Frank, told me I had to use shielded cable for the whole 25 foot run. I said it was overkill and a waste of time. He just said, 'You'll get noise, and then you'll be back here next week.' I did it my way with unshielded, and sure enough, the signal was full of static. Had to redo the whole thing. Anyone else had a stubborn lesson like that?

That static is probably from the plane's own systems. All that wiring and power running nearby acts like a radio station you don't want to hear.

Yeah, that unwanted radio station, patricia_rodriguez, sounds like my brain on a Monday morning.

Honestly, my buddy Dave was on a flight once and kept hearing this weird buzzing in his headset, thought he was losing it. Turned out the plane's own wiring was messing with his cheap earbuds the whole time. Made him swap to wired ones after that.
