Finally stopped using those cheap D-sub pin crimpers from the tool truck
I used the same $40 crimper for about 2 years on DB9s and DB25s. Kept getting intermittent shorts on a navigation light controller install last month. Swapped to a proper Daniels crimper after a buddy at the hangar let me borrow his. Now I check each pin under a 10x loupe before I even seat it. Anyone else run into bad crimps on mil-spec connectors?

Learned that lesson the hard way with a stuck pin that cost me a whole panel redo. Never again.

Honestly, that bit about checking each pin under a loupe really hits home. It's the same reason I've stopped trusting the "good enough" tools in my own life - whether it's a crimper or a cheap screwdriver, that $20 saving just costs you twice the time fixing problems later. Ngl, once you see the difference with proper gear, it's hard to go back to the old ways.
