Dropped $450 on a used spectrum analyzer and it paid off fast

Picked up a beat-up Anritsu off eBay last spring for $450 because I got tired of guessing on antenna SWR problems. First job after that was a bizjet with a weird VHF drop-out that had three other guys stumped. I traced it to a bad coax coupler in the tail in like 20 minutes flat. Has anyone else had good luck with older test gear or am I just lucky?

Older test gear is way underrated. Sometimes the older stuff is built tougher than the new budget models too. Makes you wonder how much of the new stuff is just paying for a fancy screen.

Yeah, you're right. I used to think newer was always better for test gear but this made me rethink my whole setup.
