Button plate swap on a Gulfstream G550 turned into a shouting match with a senior tech

Had a guy named Dave at the Savannah hangar last month insist I was going to blow the bus by using a standard dental pick on a button plate connector. He said it would arc and take out three LRUs. I told him I've done it on Falcons for five years without issue, and he just walked away. What's the real deal with those pin removal tools - plastic only or metal is fine if you're careful?

Is a little arcing really going to toast three whole LRUs?

Learned that lesson the hard way back in '09 when my "careful" metal pick turned a simple swap into a three-day parts hunt. Now I just use plastic and save myself the walk of shame to the parts cage.
