A pilot at my local airport said something that made me question our whole approach to troubleshooting.
We were talking about a stubborn autopilot issue on a Cessna 172, and he said, 'You guys always start with the black boxes, but have you ever just asked the plane what it's feeling?' He meant listening for servo hums and feeling for binding cables before even opening the manuals. It made me realize we might be jumping to the complex stuff too fast and missing simple clues. How often do you actually start with a physical check before you plug in the test set?

What's the weirdest thing you've found just by listening first?

Weirdest thing" is a bit much lol. Most of the time you just hear people arguing about something totally normal, like where to get lunch. It's never a secret plot or anything. You listen in and it's just someone mad about the wifi being slow again. Makes you wonder if "listening first" is really that deep.

Wait did you just say someone was legit angry about slow wifi? That's honestly kind of hilarious. @wilson.anthony you're telling me you've never overheard something actually wild while people think no one's listening?
